Glutathione is the body's master antioxidant. The body naturally produces this - it's three amino acids (l-glutamine, glycine, and cysteine) strung together. It does a bang-up job of lowering oxidative stress (aka free radicals). It is primarily made in the liver, BUT it is found in high concentrations in the enterocytes in the small intestine and in the stomach.
Enterocytes = intestinal absorptive cells 🌞
⬇️ glutathione levels in the digestive tract can ⬆️ inflammation and things like intestinal permeability (leak gut). How do we think these impacts not only digestion and absorption of nutrients but mood!!!
Things like alcohol, stress, poor diet and genetic variants increase the body's demand. MTHFR peeps, you probably already knew that one. You can also add in foods that support the creation of glutathione, such as foods rich in selenium, hey brazil nuts. I also love, sweet potatoes, peppers, carrots, 🥑 , squash, spinach, berries and melons
Glutathione has been a BIG part of my regime every day! Glutathione is the mother of all antioxidants! 🙌🏼
